16 June saw the launch of a new community space for Alpine Grove in Hackney.
Formerly a disused estate office, the refurbished space will offer community activities for Southern Housing Group customers on the estate, such as writing classes, beauty workshops, and bingo nights.
Southern Housing Group’s Community Partnerships Officer AnnMarie Nelson was the project lead and worked alongside partners to oversee the refurbishment from start to finish.
She said: “I’m delighted with the end result and the fact that this space can now benefit our customers.”
The lunchtime launch invited resident volunteers and partners involved in the refurbishment, including guests from Volunteer Centre Hackney, the Group’s lead partners for the project.
The new space means additional, free of charge facilities can now be offered to Southern Housing Group customers living at Alpine Grove who were previously limited to their local Hackney community centre.
Pat Turnbull, chair of the Tenants and Residents Association, said: “The new space is fantastic. Now residents can enjoy a much wider variety of activities; in particular, our older customers can now meet and socialise in an informal space.”
