Arthur Merchant, new Chair of Southern Housing Group Board
Southern Housing Group has announced that it has appointed Arthur Merchant as the new Chair for the Group’s Board.
A former partner and Head of Housing at the accountancy firm Grant Thornton UK PLC, Arthur has specialised in the delivery of audit and advisory services to the housing sector for more than 20 years.
Arthur also has extensive experience working in the local government, NHS and education sectors, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the organisation.
“In a period where the sector is facing huge change I want to ensure we continue with our excellent financial management so we can go on to deliver our strategy at the same time.”
“We know it’s exceptionally important that we retain the community investment, financial help and employment services to our customers.”
“Having taken over at a time where the organisation is in a strong position, I want to drive us forward in a positive way so we can continue to provide housing to those most in need.”
Tom Dacey, Chief Executive, Southern Housing Group said:
“I am delighted to welcome Arthur to his new role as Chair of the Board. His extensive experience and knowledge of our Group will be greatly valued and I am looking forward to working with him to achieve our shared vision.”
“I am sure Arthur and everyone will be joining me in extending our gratitude to Malcolm Groves for the great service he has given the Group over the past years.” Arthur is already a member of the Group’s Board and has served on the Board since March 2013. He will officially step up as the Chair at the Group’s next annual general meeting on 18 July where he takes over from Malcolm Groves.
