We have been working closely with Volunteer Centre Hackney on a health scoping project at our New Kingshold Estate in London.
This area was recently successful in securing funding through the Our Place programme. Our Place aims to give people more power over local services and budgets in their neighbourhoods by supporting communities and public service organisations to develop an operational plan and take control in their area to make sure that things work in the best way for local people.
The aim of the project is to improve health and wellbeing on the estate by engaging residents to become volunteer Community Champions and Health Buddies through running local activities and services.
We held a fun day at the New Kingshold Community Centre as part of the project. The event was a good opportunity to engage with residents about how they can get active and get involved. Residents were entertained by the Pantonic steel orchestra and had the opportunity to receive free health checks, smoking cessation advice and undertake a number of healthy activities.
