The Prince of Wales, President, The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community today visited Highbury Gardens in Islington, a best practice example of how to successfully bring well designed homes to the capital.
Delivered by a partnership made up of Southern Housing Group, First Base and the Homes and Communities Agency, Highbury Gardens is a £35m mixed tenure residential development.
The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community played a crucial role in advising on the best way to engage the local community in the design process.
Dale Meredith, Development Director of Southern Housing Group, says: "Highbury Gardens has been a very popular scheme because of its attractive layout and appearance. It has also enabled a sustainable blend of part-buy part-rent and social rented homes, which are mixed in with the private homes."
The 119 home scheme sets the benchmark for quality of design across all tenures; and comprise a mix of private, first time buyer and affordable homes.
