Southern Housing Group has secured a £1000 grant from its contractor, Bugler Developments Ltd, as part of its commitment to social value, which encourages organisations to consider how their contracts can benefit local communities.
Bugler Developments is the Group’s development contractor for Nightingale 7D, a development in Hackney in London, and awarded the cheque for £1000 on site on 12 August 2015.
John Gleeson, Head of Economic Inclusion at Southern Housing Group said, “We’re thrilled to have received this contribution from Bugler Developments as it shows that corporate social responsibility is still a high priority in the housing sector.
“Southern Housing Group as a business has a corporate social responsibility and duty to ensure that the services we buy have a direct benefit on our residents and the local community.
“Bugler’s grant will be invested straight back into communities as part of a resident support fund to help our residents with projects or events that directly benefit their local areas. This will include activities related to employment and skills, financial capability, digital inclusion and health and wellbeing.
“The Group ensures that social value is included in every new tender process and, as part of our contracts with new suppliers, we encourage them to create employment and training opportunities for our residents.
“Similarly, we’re also always on the look-out for new employment and training opportunities for our residents and we will get in touch with our contractors to refer suitable candidates where appropriate.
“This approach not only saves our contractors time and money on recruiters and recruitment fees, but they also have the advantage of knowing their prospective staff are enthusiastic, loyal and ready to learn. It really is a win-win for all involved.”
As part of the Group’s social value programme, all contractors are encouraged to commit additional resources to support and enhance employment and training, financial stability, improve health and well-being, and improve the local environment through innovation and partnership working.
