Southern Housing Group saves almost £300,000 on repairs
Southern Housing Group, one of the largest housing providers in southern England, has saved almost £300,000 on resident repairs in the past 10 months.
The savings were made after the Group decided to bring its Kent repairs service in-house under the banner of Southern Maintenance Services.
Carl Dewey, Southern Maintenance Services Director, said that the development of an internal repairs capability has seen the Group continue to provide a full range of repairs services with the added benefits of financial savings and higher customer satisfaction.
“We continue to provide residents with a whole range of repairs services; cyclical, responsive and out-of-hours and this has obviously meant some significant cost savings for the Group.
“The move to providing an in-house repairs service has also had a hugely positive impact on resident satisfaction. More than 95% of residents now rate our service at 8 out of 10 or above, while an impressive 88% of residents give the service a 10/10.”
The service is run from the Group’s Ashford office and covers areas in Kent, including Dover, Folkestone, Canterbury and Margate.
With around 15 staff, the team employs people in a range of roles including carpenters, plumbers, electricians and plasterers.
“While we’re a relatively small team, it was quite a big step to bring the repairs service in-house, but overall it has been a hugely positive move both for the Group and for our residents, said Carl.
“We now offer an end-to-end service for our residents and offering this broad range of services in-house is one of the key reasons for Southern Maintenance Services’ success.”
All of the money saved through implementing the in-house repairs service is now reinvested into providing other services for Southern Housing Group residents.
