Southern Housing Group volunteers for Red Nose Day
More than 70 staff from Southern Housing Group volunteered their time on Friday night (15 March 2013) to support this year's Comic Relief.
The housing association's Service Centre based in Horsham - which usually takes calls from its 60,000 residents - became one of 150 call centres across the country which processed telephone donations for the charity.
Staff met at 6pm for a brief training session, and were good to go once the phone lines went live on national TV at 6.45pm.
Mark Rogers, who manages Southern Housing Group's Service Centre on a day-to-day basis coordinated the Group's participation in Red Nose Day. He says: "Southern Housing Group, and all the staff involved, are really proud to be involved in this year's Red Nose Day. It's been great to donate our resources and staff expertise to such a good cause."
The Comic Relief call centre manager said: "The Southern Housing Group team has done a great job tonight - by donating the resources in their call centre and staff time, they have helped us to keep our costs down and ensure that every penny raised through Red Nose Day goes towards helping transform the lives of people dealing with poverty and social injustice."
Key facts: Between them 70 Southern Housing Group staff volunteered around 420 hours of their time to the charity on Friday night. Southern Housing Group staff processed £37,637 worth of donations throughout the evening. Staff themselves raised and donated £432 on the night by buying raffle tickets to win prizes donated by local businesses.
