Southern Housing Group wins major award for engagement in supported housing
The Group's Care and Supporting Independence (CASI) Team has won the Tpas South Region Award for ‘Excellence In Engagement in Supported Housing’.
The Group's CASI team helps around 1,000 people on the Isle of Wight, half of these through its supported housing service. This includes hostels for those with mental health issues or those dealing with homelessness, to residential homes for elderly people and those with learning disabilities.
The team makes a big difference to the lives of vulnerable people on the Island, and their hard work was recently recognised at the Tpas Awards South Region 2018, where the team took home the award for ‘Excellence in Engagement in Supported Housing.’
Tpas are England’s leading tenant engagement experts and the annual Tpas Awards showcases the success stories of social housing providers and their tenants.
Engagement in a supported housing setting can be difficult to facilitate as service users may have more complex needs or are only using services for a short time before moving on. The Tpas Award for Excellence in Engagement in Supported Housing recognises a provider that is successfully engaging with or involving service users.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony on 9 February at the Hilton London in Wembley, and the winners in each region (south, central and north) will go on to compete in the national final in July.
Naomi Keyte, Head of Sheltered and Care Services, said:
The key reason we engage our supported customers is to empower them and help them gain the skills they need to maximise their independence.
The Island is a wonderful place to live but can be isolating if you live away from your family and friends. We believe everyone has the right to high quality care and support to live the life they want. An important part of this is listening to customers and helping them reach personal goals. To receive this award is a great thrill and a testament to the caring, responsive, and much-valued service we deliver to our customers.
This award is dedicated to Michael Holmes, one of the Group's Isle of Wight customers, who recently passed away. Michael worked tirelessly to help others with learning and physical difficulties to get involved in projects that gave them with opportunities for personal achievement and positive outcomes.
