Vega wins Top 5 Sustainable Development 2013 award
Congratulations to Vega scheme in Brighton, on being nominated by Inside Housing, as one of the country’s Top 50 Affordable Housing Developments 2013.
Inspired by the art deco style of the 1930s, the 40 home apartment building in East Sussex, was last week voted as a Top Five Sustainable Development, along with three other housing associations and one property developer.
The scheme’s sustainable attributes include; achieving Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, high levels of natural light, a centralised heating system and photovoltaic panels which turn the sun’s energy into electricity, which then powers the communal areas.
The development can also boast a stunning, innovative, modern take on the historical original designs.
In response to the City Council’s Percent for Art initiative, the design features glass columns at the front of the building which illuminate during darkness. A central blue column within the lighting panel is linked to the tide. A high tide is represented when the blue reaches the full height of the building.
Now occupied for almost 12 months, the scheme’s residents’ have remarked on Vega as being ‘quiet’ and a ‘safe and secure’ place to live.
