Since the beginning of 2016, Jackie has been volunteering at Byrnhill Grove on the Isle of Wight, which provides accommodation for people over 65 who require nursing or personal care.
She is a ‘buddy’ to a regular group of extra care customers, and as well as being a friendly face to talk to, she organises one-to-one and group sessions that include memory games, bingo, and dominoes. She has built up a great rapport with customers who really look forward to her visits.
Jackie has limited vision and is a carer for members of her family. She said: “Volunteering has really increased my confidence, and as a result I’m starting to think about a career in health and social care.”
