Melanie is a former Southern Works client who has been volunteering at Southern Housing Group’s West Wight Workwise digital job club since 2014.
She helps people learn basic computer skills and provides information, advice, and guidance about employability. With supervision and coaching from staff, she has recently started running the job club.
West Wight Workwise digital job club is based on the Isle of Wight and offers free help for people looking to get into work and learn basic computer skills. Sessions are available free of charge, and are open to both customers and non-customers of Southern Housing Group.
“I chose to volunteer because I wanted to help the people around me,” she said. “Having received help myself, I wanted to give back to the community. Running the job club has increased my confidence and skills, and gives me a way to demonstrate my knowledge and what I can do. Volunteering has given me valuable career experience.”
The digital job club is open to all on Wednesdays from 9.30 until 11.30 at West Wight Sports and Community Centre, Moa Place, Freshwater. No appointment is necessary. For further information about the digital job club please call Natalie Betchley on 07718703566.
